Historian and Archives Manager
We have a unique and exciting opportunity for a qualified and enthusiastic individual to join our Organisation reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
Dublin Cemeteries Trust, established by Daniel O’Connell almost 200 years ago, is the leading provider of Burial and Cremation Services in the greater Dublin area and manages a total of five cemeteries and three crematoria across the city as well as the Visitor Experience Centre at Glasnevin. As an award-winning heritage site, and home to Experience Glasnevin - Ireland’s National Cemetery, Glasnevin is the guardian and storyteller of over 1.5 million people who have helped shape the Ireland of today.
As the Historian and Archives Manager, you will lead the Heritage, Education and Genealogy team responsible for conserving, promoting and researching the history and heritage of DCT and the cemeteries under its care. A core element of the role is informing, educating and inspiring the public, while placing DCT and its cemeteries at the centre of all projects and reinforcing stakeholders’ knowledge of the historic importance of DCT.

Your key areas of responsibility will include:
• Public outreach – planning and organising events and activities that promote the heritage of DCT and its cemeteries
• Liaison with key external stakeholders
• Advisory role to Senior leadership and Board
• Assisting with the organisation of lectures and commemorations
• Preparing and assisting with specialist content output such as exhibitions
• Management of DCT archive and oversight of educational DCT function
• Liaison with key external stakeholders

The Historian and Archives Manager will have enthusiasm for learning and exceptional research skills as well as the following:
• Master’s degree or Ph.D in History or relevant discipline• Previous experience in a similar heritage role/ research position (3-5 years)
• Knowledge and interest in burial practices and history of death/dying (advantageous)
• Knowledge of and a passion for Irish heritage and history
• Demonstrable capacity to work with internal and external stakeholders in advisory capacity
• Critical thinking ability and highly analytical mindset
