To mark Bastille Day this year, a commemorative event organised by the Embassy of France in Ireland was held in Glasnevin Cemetery, in memory of the thousands of Irish people who fought in France during the world wars.
During the ceremony, a plaque was unveiled by Vincent Guérend, French Ambassador to Ireland, at the grave of Norma Stoker (1905 - 1962). Stoker is regarded as one of the greatest all-round Irish sportswomen, having won international status in three separate sports. She also worked for many years in the French Embassy in Ireland, and was awarded the cross of a chevalier of the Légion d'honneur in 1949. She was buried in Glasnevin Cemetery following her death in 1962.
Thank you to all those who participated in the ceremony this year!
