    Legal Status

    Dublin Cemeteries Trust is the registered business name and operating name of The Dublin Cemeteries Committee, established in 1846. We are an independent organisation (non-local authority) governed by The Dublin Cemeteries Committee Act 1970.

    Dublin Cemeteries Trust is a not for profit organisation and a registered charity (Registered Charity Number 20009441; CHY 5849), run by an Executive Management team and governed by Committee Members.


    Committee Members

    Dublin Cemeteries Trust is governed by a committee of voluntary non-executive Board members.






    David Bunworth holds a Business degree from Trinity College, Dublin. He has an extensive range of senior management experience for some of Ireland’s major companies across three main sectors, namely the pharmaceutical, airline and energy industries. He has held several non-executive Board positions and has been Chair of the Dublin Cemeteries Trust Board since 2019.






    Michael holds an MA and an MSc (Mgmt.) and was Secretary to the College at Trinity College, Dublin from 1990-2008. He was also Director of Strategic Initiatives at Trinity from 2008-2011.

    He has a wide range of experience in corporate governance, strategic planning, risk management and mediation. He is Chair of the Trustee Board of the Marino Institute of Education, immediate past Chair of the Royal Dublin Society Foundation Board and serves on a number of other boards including that of St. James's Hospital in Dublin.






    Sarah is an experienced marketing professional with a background in the Food, Drinks and Pharmaceutical sectors. With a diverse skill set including strategy, innovation, insight, marketing and digital marketing, and a career spanning 20 plus years, Sarah brings specialised consumer and customer focus to the board of Dublin Cemeteries Trust. She also has a huge interest in and passion for Irish history, cultural and social issues.






    Ashling is Chief Information Officer at Irish Life Group and has extensive experience in the manufacturing, services and utilities industries. She has an IT and Finance background and holds an M.Sc. in Management from Trinity College.

    Before joining Irish Life Group, Ashling held several senior leadership and consulting positions in international companies. Ashling is a regular speaker at seminars and industry events on the transformational role of digital and technology, data and security, innovation and women in business.






    David is a Business graduate of Trinity College, Dublin. He worked for many years in the banking sector in London and New York, specialising in currency trading. He finished his trading career in 2003 at the highly successful hedge fund Renaissance Technologies.

    Since returning to Ireland he has served on many Boards, from tech start-ups to AIM listed companies. He also currently serves on the Board of St Gerard’s School in Bray, Co. Wicklow.

     





    Patrick is a former Medical Director and previously Director of Emergency Medicine at St James’s Hospital, Dublin and a recipient of the Lord Mayor’s Award 2007 for "services to St John Ambulance and the poor sick of Dublin”.

    Now in semi-retirement, Patrick continues a tradition of service with Dublin Cemeteries Trust, as well as the Board of Cowper Care, and the Fitness to Practice Committees of the Medical Council and of CORU.






    John is a Commerce graduate of University College Dublin. He is a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Director and an Associate of the Institute of Tax. John was a Tax Partner in PwC for 31 years, specialising primarily in Pharma/Life Sciences.

    The final phase of his career with PwC was as Chief Operating Officer for the PwC Global Tax and Legal network. Since his retirement from PwC, John has been appointed to a number of non-executive director roles. 






    Clara is a solicitor admitted to practice in Ireland and Australia and holds an international accreditation as a Workplace Investigator from the AWI Institute in California. A graduate of the University of Limerick, she is founder of Dublin based company, Clara O'Sullivan Workplace Investigations, specialising in conducting impartial investigations into disputes in the workplace.

    Clara brings a diversity of experience over the past twenty five years as a lawyer in the areas of family law, probate, employment law, compliance, governance, mediation and dispute resolution to the Board of Dublin Cemeteries Trust.







    Val is a graduate of University College Dublin – BComm and Master in Business Studies. She also has an Advanced Diploma (distinction) in Personal, Leadership and Executive Coaching from Kingstown College. Val has extensive executive general management experience gained from 30 years working within large multinational organisations (such as Coca-Cola, Diageo and Unilever) as well as functional experience within commercial, sales and marketing teams. 

    Val has worked across multiple geographies globally. Val now runs her own business (Tilly.ie) offering business training, consultancy, facilitation, coaching and mentoring.

    Meet our Chief Executive Officer

    Aoife Watters is the Chief Executive Officer of Dublin Cemeteries Trust and leads a senior management team responsible for overseeing the Trust’s five cemeteries and three crematoria, including Ireland’s iconic National Cemetery at Glasnevin.

    Aoife joined the organisation as CFO in 2018, and was appointed CEO in May 2019. She held previous roles as Director of Finance and Corporate Services in Depaul Ireland and Senior Auditor positions in private practice. She has also served on a number of boards in the not-for-profit sector, including as Chair.

    Ms Watters holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from Trinity College, is a fellow of the Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA) and has completed the professional Irish Taxation Institute (AITI) exams.
